Allied Interstate Inc. Disciplined Again

Debt collection agencies stoop to low levels at times to get their money. Many of these practices are illegal, not to mention immoral. Consumers are not always aware of their rights, and need to know that there is help and punishment for agencies that operate under these practices. Allied Interstate, a Minnesota based agency, has been caught in the act again. Apparently the first settlement the firm had to pay was not enough to make them stop their shady tactics.

For debtors contacting a debt lawyer is often their saving grace from companies who harass and abuse the person’s rights. Allied Interstate reportedly called people’s homes over and over again, even if they had the wrong number. Harassment apparently was not a word in their vocabulary. They called family and friends and released information about people’s debts. This is a highly illegal practice. A debt collection agency is never allowed to release this information to third parties. This time they have agreed to pay $90,000 to people in Oregon who were subject to their collection practices. These consumers were harassed, and some even degraded by agents on the phone. A professional agency should not be using obscene language when making phone calls. Regardless of acceptable business practices, consumers were subject to this kind language. These tactics are what lead to the Attorney General’s office in Oregon receiving around 200 complaints. The $90,000 settlement follows one in October, where Allied Interstate agreed to pay $1.75 million out in settlements.

This company has a shaky history, and has had many allegations brought against it. They have been fined three times by the Minnesota Commerce Department in a two year time span. Consumers who have been victims of this agency have been able to contact a debt lawyer for help. Fines and settlements are a deterrent for agencies to allow this kind of behavior and collection practices. With the money it has already had to pay out one would think they would learn from their mistakes. The record shows they have not, and that consumers need to be aware of their rights and the help available to them.

If you have been receiving harassing or abusive phone calls or letters from Allied Interstate Inc, contact a fair debt lawyer today.
